Blinken Says Israel Trip Will Focus On "Day After" Conflict

Wires carrying comments from US Secretary of State Antony Blinken stating that his upcoming trip to Israel will focus on the "day after" the Gaza war, adding that conditions need to be set for a "durable, sustainable peace for Palestinians and Israelis alike."

  • Blinken says he, "will focus on steps needed to protect civilians," stating that, "Palestinian civilians are continuing to bear the brunt of this conflict."
  • Blinken says he, "will be talking to both Israeli government and partners in the region to prevent the conflict from spreading," and is, "determined to prevent escalation on all fronts, including southern Lebanon, the West Bank or elsewhere in the region."
  • White House National Security Council Spokesperson John Kirby is scheduled to brief the press at 13:30 ET 17:30 BST. He will provide another update of the US response to war and will likely field questions on an intensification of headlines on Hezbollah. (Livestream)
