US DATA REACT: BMO analysts said the "preliminary September durable goods orders
came in much stronger than expected at 2.2% YoY versus consensus of 1.0% of and
against a prior read of 2.0%. The ex-transportation orders rose 0.7%, besting
the 0.5% seen and the capital goods ex Defense and air oders and shipments were
stronger as well. Orders were at 1.3% versus 0.3% consensus with an upward
revision to the prior read to 1.3%."
- They add that "shipments also were much better at 0.7% versus 0.1% consensus.
Broadly a very healthy print with few categories showing outsized strength or
weakness. Non-defense aircraft orders jumped while computer shipments and new
orders were weak."
