Bonilla & Villar In Lower House, Pension Reform Discussions Continue

  • Finance Minister Ricardo Bonilla is scheduled to take part in an event organized by the Cambio Magazine at 1300GMT / 0800 Local. Following this Bonilla and central bank governor, Leonardo Villar, are scheduled to debate the economic and fiscal situation of the country with lawmakers in the lower house at 1500GMT / 1000 Local. Separately in local news, the discussion of the pension reform continues in the senate after Tuesday’s debate was postponed.
  • The Colombian peso has traded in a contained manner over 2024, broadly respecting the 3880 and 3980 range. A cautious start to the central bank’s easing cycle and elevated oil prices continue to support the Colombian peso, which has consolidated its impressive advance across 2023.
  • Reports have been circulating suggesting that COP may reemerge as a carry destination due to its implied volatility, which has been sinking this year and potentially improves the risk-reward ratio for bulls. The one-month implied volatility has reached 12.29%, the lowest level since December 2021.
