Boric Approval Underwater Ahead Of Sept Constitutional Referendum

CHILE

The approval rating of Chilean President Gabriel Boric continues to fall amid fears of inflation and declining consumer confidence.

  • The collapse in support for Boric is of particular concern considering the ongoing re-write of Chile's constitution, due to be put to a referendum on September 4, which is critically hindering Boric's legislative ability.
  • Chilean polling firm Cadem found that 46% of Chileans plan to reject the new constitution.
  • Patricio Navia, professor of Latin American Studies at New York University: 'If the constitution is rejected, Boric will be a lame duck for three years.'
