Europe could be set to import around 50,000 tonnes of coal a month from Botswana, according to a Reuters interview with the country’s president Mokgweetsi Masisi.

  • Europe has been seeking coal supplies away from Russia since the invasion.
  • Botswana coal infrastructure is limited, mainly exporting to neighbouring countries.
  • The west African nation is hoping to attract long term supply deals with Europe to draw investment into the industry.
