Brainard: US Economy Showing Resilience Despite Predictions Of Recession

White House National Economic Council Director Lael Brainard, speaking at the White House press conference, has told reporters that the, "US economy is showing a lot of resilience," despite "repeated predictions" of recession.

  • Brainard says we are continuing to see a strong labour market and low unemployment, and have, "actually seen the labour market improve," due to the increased participation of working age Americans, "so there are reasons to think we are going to continue to see resilience against a backdrop of what we refer to as 'stable economic growth'."
  • Brainard says some commercial real estate, like office space are "adjusting to different patterns of work," so that "needs to work its way through," adding that the White House "is very attentive to where those financial risks lie."
