The Brazil Workers Party has announced that Brazil's President Elect Luiz Inácio "Lula" da Silva will hold a phone call with US President Joe Biden this afternoon.
- According to local journalist Beatriz Manfredini, Biden called yesterday to congratulate Lula on his election difficult but experienced technical difficulties.
- The White House released a statement from Biden yesterday following Lula's mathematical victory over incumbent President Jair Bolsonaro: "I send my congratulations to Luiz Incio Lula da Silva on his election to be the next president of Brazil following free, fair, and credible elections. I look forward to working together to continue the cooperation between our two countries in the months and years ahead."
- The Biden administration will be keen to make a demonstrative recognition of Lula's victory as Bolsonaro is yet to formally concede defeat and tensions remain elevated.
- Reuters: "Brazil's outgoing President Jair Bolsonaro had on Monday yet to concede defeat in the presidential election, raising fears the far-right nationalist might contest the victory of his leftist rival, former president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva."
