The rural northern autonomous community of Castile and Leon goes to the polls on Sunday 13 February in only one of two regional elections taking place in 2022. While an election in such a sparsely-populated region would not usually gain much focus, but the continued instability of the Sanchez gov't at the federal level and the lack of other gauges of political support in Spain this year makes the election one to watch.
- The incumbent centre-right People's Party (PP) and the centre-left Socialists (PSOE) - which sit as the largest party in the regional parliament but do not govern - are almost level in opinion polls with little to choose between the two.
- The right-wing nationalist Vox look set to secure third place, and could end up forming a right-wing coalition with the PP following the election.

The party has the stated aim of improving the representation and status of Spain's large, rural, sparsely populated autonomous communities in the country's inland areas, such as Castile and Leon, Castilla-La Mancha, Aragon, and Extremadura.
- As in many other western nations with sizeable wealth disparities between regions, the party could tap into that section of society that feels 'left behind' by the capital and wealthier coastal cities and make inroads into the base of support for the two dominant parties, the PP and PSOE.
