Ceasefire Proposals Made In Meeting w/Turkish & Ukrainian Reps.-RIA

RUSSIA

Russia's state-run RIA reporting comments from a Russian Human Rights Commissioner Tatiana Moskalkova stating that 'important ceasefire proposals have been made during meeting with Turkish and Ukrainian colleagues.'

  • Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets met with Moskalkova in Ankara, Turkey earlier today. Moskalkova also stated that a 'ceasefire is necessary to stop human rights violations, first of all, right to life.'
  • Lubinets posted on social media: "We discussed a wide range of humanitarian problems and cases related to the provision of human rights assistance to citizens of the two countries. We also exchanged specific proposals."
  • The meeting comes as Kremlin-backed mercenaries from the Wagner Group claim to have taken the town of Soledar in the Donetsk oblast. The claim has been rejected by Ukraine, which claims its troops are still offering resistance.
  • The loss of Soledar, with substantial salt mines, would be an economic, strategic, and morale blow to Kyiv. If Russian troops have gained control of the town, it would also offer a staging post for a drive into the city of Bakhmut.
