CFTC CoT Shows Asset Managers Adding To Longs Ahead Of Last Week’s Tier 1 Data

US TSY FUTURES

The latest CFTC CoT report shows asset managers adding to net longs in all contracts outside of TU futures, while hedge funds generally added to net shorts.

  • Overall non-commercial net positioning saw a mix of net shorts being extended/trimmed, with net short positioning remaining evident across all major futures.
  • A reminder that the survey covers the period through July 30, so doesn’t account for the bulk of last week’s rally.
  • Daily OI metrics suggest that the rally seen since the CoT cut off data was fuelled by net long setting.
  • As ever, the positioning metrics will be skewed by the presence of basis trades.
