China and US to Discuss More Flights Between Nations

China's minister of culture and tourism said on Tuesday Beijing hopes the United States will further increase direct flights with China and facilitate visa applications for Chinese nationals.

  • Both sides agreed to hold a high-level dialogue on tourism in China in the first half of 2024 to further revive and develop tourism cooperation between the two countries, the ministry added.
  • In a document published on 11 August, the US Department of Transportation (DOT) said that effective 1 September, Chinese carriers may increase the total number of weekly round-trip flights to the USA to 18, from 12 previously, with that number rising to 24 on 29 October.
  • Prior to the pandemic there were about 350 flights a week between the US and China.
