China FM Issues Hawkish Comments, Talks Up China-Russia Relations

Some fairly hawkish comments from Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi hitting wires following talks with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov. States that China is 'willing to deepen relationships with Russia in all levels', and that 'any attempt to obstruct China and Russia in the future will never succeed'.

  • Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirms the two ministers discussed the situation in Ukraine.
  • Wang Yi: 'It is a legitimate right of China and Russia to realise their development and revitalisation'.
  • Days ago, Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu talked to his Chinese counterpart Wei Fenghe about the alleged risk of a Ukrainian 'dirty bomb'. China is believed to have strongly warned Russia off the prospect of any nuclear pre-emptive strike, with the view of this action as hugely destabilising for the global landscape.
