China's use of fossil fuels is expected to decline to 20-30% of the energy mix before 2060, when it aims to achieve carbon neutrality, wrote Du Xiangwan, honorary director of the National Expert Committee on Climate Change, in the China Daily. China requires massive amounts of renewable energy, while it should also focus on increasing its carbon capture and recycling capacity as well as overcoming electricity storage problems, Du said. To realize the 2060 goal, China has also linked it to the officials' performance, the newspaper added. MNI noted that coal accounts for about 60% of China's primary energy consumption currently.
