--Congress to Select China's Political Leadership For Next Five Years
BEIJING (MNI) - The Chinese Communist Party's top leadership proposed to
hold its 19th congress starting Oct. 18, the official Xinhua News Agency
reported on Thursday, citing a Politburo meeting on Thursday chaired by
President Xi Jinping.
The Politburo will formally recommend the date to party members at the
upcoming 7th plenary session of the current 18th congress, according to Xinhua.
The congress will review the "historical progress and valuable experience"
by the current central leadership, with Xi at its core, Xinhua said. It will
also formulate an action plan and political principles that steer the Chinese
people on a path of "socialism with Chinese characteristics," Xinhua said.
The five-yearly congress will select new members of the party's central
committee and central disciplinary committee, Xinhua said.
