China: Will Protect Legitimate Rights Of Chinese Companies

Reuters reporting comments from the Chinese Commerce Ministry stating that China will "take necessary measures to safeguard the legitimate rights of Chinese companies."

  • The Commerce Ministry urged the US to "stop suppressing Chinese firms unreasonably and immediately correct its wrongdoings."
  • The comments come in response to a decision by the US Commerce Department to add more than two dozen Chinese companies to its trade blacklist.
  • The Commerce Department said in a statement that the measures were compeled by national security and target companies with ties to the Iranian military.
  • US Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo told Bloomberg yesterday she is considering a trip to China as soon as this Spring.
  • Raimondo said President Biden is “looking to engage with China in all ways that are good for America, commercially, diplomatically — that communication is intended to de-escalate. That’s where we want to be in our relationship with China — not escalating... I’m certainly going to be sending my team [to China] — probably even this spring. We’re trying to work that out. And yes, I think probably I would [go]."
