South Korea's Yonhap reports that the Senior Civil Servants' Corruption Investigation Office (CIO), the body spearheading the attempted prosecution of suspended President Yoon Suk-yeol, has received permission from the 55th Security Brigade of the Capital Defense Command of the Army, which protects the outer perimeter of the presidential palace, to enter the palace and execute an arrest warrant for Yoon. However, Yonhap also reports that the Presidential Security Service and the Ministry of National Defense have denied such permission has been granted.
- The Public Prosecutors Office claims that it sent a request to the 55th Brigade requesting access, receiving the response "Access to the requested address is permitted."
- The Presidential Security Service responded: "The report that the 55th Security Brigade was approved for entry into the official residence area is completely false. The Presidential Security Service has never conducted any entry permit procedures with the Public Prosecutor's Office, and the 55th Security Brigade has never approved entry."
- The CIO could seek to execute the arrest warrant for Yoon for the second time as soon as the morning of 15 January. The last attempt resulted in an hours-long standoff between investigators and the military units within the palace grounds.
- Yonhap: "There is a high possibility that the Presidential Security Service will still deny entry into the residence [...], and there is even a war of words over whether or not to allow the 55th Security Brigade to enter the residence, so there are concerns that physical conflict may occur if actual enforcement is attempted."
