Clean MR Vessel Ton Miles Rise in East but Fall in the West

OIL PRODUCTS

The total clean tanker ton-miles for MR vessels travelling between Asia and the Middle East increased in September to 56bn driven by an increase in long-haul voyages to Australia, Mexico and South Africa according to Kpler.

  • The increase saw the level approaching the record high seen in April.
  • MR ton-miles in the West dropped in September after reaching a record high of 75bn at the end of the summer.
  • A recent divergence in demand could see the share of MR vessels net shift East in the next month. The share of the MR vessels operating in the East has remained steady at 46% since June with 54% in the West.
