CNB Announces Rate Decision, Pavel Looks For Regular Meetings With PM & Opposition Leader

  • The CNB will announce its monetary policy decision at 13:30BST/14:30CEST, with virtually all analysts expecting no change to the 2-week repo rate, which currently stands at 7.00%. Czechia's central bank will then hold a press briefing at 14:45BST/15:45CEST to discuss its monetary policy and economic outlook.   • During his visit to the Moravian-Silesian region President Petr Pavel said that he wants to hold regular trilateral meetings with the Prime Minister and head of the biggest opposition party. He noted that Prime Minister Petr Fiala and representatives of the opposition ANO movement were positive about the idea, adding that he expects the first such meeting to take place soon. Pavel also said that he will unveil his full advisory team next Monday.
  • Lidove noviny daily reports that Pavel is working on replacements of seven outgoing Constitutional Court judges, with three of them (including the Court's deputy heads Jaroslav Fenyk and Milada Tomkova) set to retire as soon as in May. The other four judges (including Chairman Pavel Rychetsky) will vacate their seats in the second half of the year. More than two dozen legal institutions have been asked to recommend their candidates by next Wednesday.
