CNB's Holub Refuses To Rule Out 2023 Rate Cuts, No-Confidence Motion Against Gov't Fails

CZECHIA
  • CNB's Tomas Holub refused to rule out rate cuts as soon as this year as upside risks to the inflation outlook ease. The official added that "they would probably be slower than implied in our summer forecast, and probably slower than will be implied in our autumn forecast". His comments came after Governor Ales Michl left all options on the table ahead of the next Bank Board meetings.
  • The Chamber of Deputies last night rejected a motion of no confidence in Prime Minister Petr Fiala's government after a two-day debate. The outcome was widely expected, given the ruling coalition's comfortable majority in the lower house.
  • The Senate rejected the candidacy of President Petr Pavel's nominee Pavel Simon for a seat at the country's Constitutional Court. Only 23 out of 73 lawmakers present at the vote backed Simon, despite Pavel coming to the Senate to personally defend his candidate.
