Colombia and Venezuelan Energy Ties Near

Colombia is considering importing natural gas and light crude from Venezuela in a bid to reduce fuel costs according to Colombian Energy Minister Andrés Camacho.

  • “We’re exploring the possibility for Ecopetrol to directly explore for gas and hydrocarbons in Venezuela,” Camacho said in an interview with Blu Radio.
  • Colombian President Gustavo Petro visited Nicolás Maduro in Caracas at the weekend and stated it was “very likely” Ecopetrol and PDVSA would partner in oil and gas production.
  • It marks in shift in policy by the Colombian government that has been pushing away from fossil fuels after recently declining to award any new exploration licenses in the country.
