Commercial Operations at Alexandroupolis LNG Expected in October

LNG

Gastrade expects to launch commercial operations at Greece’s 5.5bcm Alexandroupolis FSRU-based LNG import terminal in October, according to LNG Prime.

  • The company previously aimed to start commercial operations at the end of April and receive a second LNG cargo in mid-May following the commissioning cargo from the US on February 18.
  • The launch was delayed due to a “technical issue” during the commissioning process of the terminal. “The issue that was identified during commissioning in the pipeline system of the project, is under rectification,” a Gastrade spokeswoman said.
  • “Should the issue be resolved earlier, the company will update its customers accordingly and announce an earlier COD,” the spokeswoman added.
  • The terminal is Greece’s first FSRU and the second LNG import facility, adding to the import terminal at Revithoussa.
  • The FSRU is expected to supply gas both domestically as well as via pipeline connections into southeastern Europe to supply Bulgaria and other central European nations.
