Concerns Over Age Weigh More Heavily On Biden Than Trump

US

A new survey from ABC News/Ipsos has found that 59% of voters believe that both President Biden and former President Donald Trump are too old for another term as president.

  • ABC notes: “This finding, coming after allegations in Special Counsel Hur’s report of President Joe Biden’s memory lapses, suggests that age will continue to be a factor in the 2024 election.”
  • ABC: “Partisanship plays a large part in assessments of the candidates’ age with the majority of Republicans (62%) saying only Biden while the majority of both Democrats (69%) and Independents (70%) say both are too old.”
  • The survey data suggests that, despite a general concern amongst the electorate that both candidates are too old, the sentiment against Biden appears more entrenched. Fears that Biden's age could be a major vulnerability for Biden have also been reflected in betting markets which have seen Trump firm as overall favourite to win the election by around 5% - to 51% - since the release of Hur's report, according to data from ElectionBettingOdds.
