Consensus Eyes Core CPI Resilience – 0830ET

  • Consensus sees CPI inflation easing from 7.0 to 6.7% Y/Y in Sept as it slows further from 8.1% Y/Y in June. The analyst range is typically wide at 6.5-7.1% Y/Y but is grouped around 6.6-6.8%.
  • Focus will be on core measures excluding CPI-common, with limited consensus for little change from the 5% Y/Y averaged in Aug after holding 5.2% through May-Jul.
  • RBC, in line with headline consensus, also see the simple ex food & energy accelerating from 5.3% Y/Y with core unlikely to meaningfully slow until Dec.
