UK

Support for the governing Conservative party has fallen to its lowest level since September 2019 in the latest opinion poll carried out by Techne. With all fieldwork carried out on the day PM Boris Johnson announced his resignation as leader of the Conservatives, the party's support fell to 29%, while the main opposition Labour party's support stood at 41%.

  • Latest Westminster voting intention numbers: Lab 41% (+3), Con 29% (-3), Lib Dem 14% (+1), Green 6% (+1), SNP 4% (nc). 1,644 questioned on Thursday 7 July. Changes with 29-30 June.
  • Based on these figures, according to Electoral Calculus, Labour would hold a majority of 46 seats if this result were replicated in a general election based on the new proposed constituency boundaries due to come in at the next election.
  • The poll also gauged respondents' confidence in the gov't to deal with the business of governing until a new PM is in place, with confidence very low: 'How confident are you in the present Government’s ability to deal with the country’s priorities until the new Government takes office?': Very confident – 2%, Fairly confident – 6%, Less than confident – 30%, Not at all confident – 52%
