Constitutional Tribunal Chief Justice Calls On Rebels To Return To Work, Polish CPI On Tap

POLAND
  • Constitutional Tribunal Chief Justice Julia Przylebska and seven judges loyal to her reiterated their call on six other judges to "urgently resume all their duties." The rebels claim that Przylebska's term has expired and refuse to participate in the Tribunal's proceedings until she initiates procedures leading to the selection of her successor. Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki echoed Przylebska's call, noting that the "judges who don't want to cooperate should just think about Poland's interest." The deadlock at the Tribunal means that it cannot reach quorum to issue a ruling on a court reform needed to unlock EU funding for Poland.
  • Statistics Poland will publish flash April CPI data at 09:00BST/10:00CEST. It is expected that headline inflation may have cooled to +15.0% Y/Y from +16.1% registered in March. Data on core inflation is released separately by the central bank and will not be available until May 16.
  • Poland's Agriculture Minister Robert Telus and EU Agriculture Commissioner Janusz Wojciechowski will hold media briefings on imports of Ukrainian agricultural products.
