Court to Assess HDP Extension, Turkey Stays on UK Travel Red List

  • Constitutional Court to assess whether to grant the HDP a case extension it demanded to prepare its defence against calls for its closure by the AKP and MHP on September 2nd.
    • If the court fails to grant the extension it will have to present its defence on 7 September. The closure case is based on alleged terrorist links to the outlawed PKK group
  • Turkey remains on UK's red list in yet another blow to tourism after Healthmin Koca said there was a high chance it would be moved to amber status. Turkey reported 19.616 new covid cases and 257 deaths yesterday
  • Opposition CHP party says refugees aren't the problem, but Govt's immigration policy. Says Both Turkey & Refugees are suffering as a result of poor policy.
    • Recent polls have shown over 70% of Turks are in favour of closing the borders to refugees as increasing pressure comes on Erdogan to stem the flow of migrants making up over 7% of Turkey's population
