CPPCC Chair-Necessary To Gradually Resume & Expand Cross-Strait Exchanges

(MNI) London - State-run Chinese outlet Xinhuareporting comments from senior CCP official Wang Huning calling for a resumption and broadening of communications with Taiwan. Speaking at the 2023 Taiwan Work Conference, fourth-ranking member of the Politburo Standing Committee and Chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) Huning stated that:

  • "We must uphold the concept of "one family on both sides of the strait", [...] and continue to deepen cross-strait integration and development. It is necessary to gradually resume and expand cross-strait exchanges, [...]."
  • "We must resolutely oppose "Taiwan independence" separatist activities and interference by external forces, and resolutely defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity. It is necessary to strengthen the party's overall leadership over Taiwan's work, conduct in-depth investigations and research, and promote the high-quality development of Taiwan's work."
