POWER: CWE Power Demand to Fall Sharply M/M in March on Temperatures

Power demand in Germany, France and the UK is forecast to decline by 14% to 135MW in March, with potential upside from a prolonged cold spell according to BNEF.
- Power consumption in the three countries could rise to 141GW if the cold spell in early March would last longer than expected. This was observed in 2018 with the “Beast from the East”.
- German power demand is expected to be stable on the year this month at 54GW, while French demand is seen to be 1.2% higher on the year at 52.5GW.
- In the UK, March power demand is expected to rise 0.8% above 2024 levels to 28GW.
- Italian power demand this month is forecast to rise by 2.1% on the year to 31.5GW.
- On the supply side, wind output in Germany and France is forecast to rise by 29% in March to 24.5GW.
- In the UK, wind output is forecast to rise by 17.9% on the year to 10GW in March.
- In contrast, Belgian wind generation is expected to decline by 28.6% on the year to 1GW in March due to low wind speeds.
- Solar PV output in Germany, France and the UK is set to rise by 68% to 12.4GW amid seasonality.
