CZECHIA: Some In ODS Are Disappointed With Cabinet Rejig, FinMin Auctions Bonds

  • Seznam Zpravy reported that there has been some backlash from members of Prime Minister Petr Fiala's ODS party to the decision to keep Jan Lipavsky as Foreign Minister, despite the Pirate Party's exit from the government. This was confirmed by ex-MEP Jan Zahradil, who said that it's probably not "a majority, but one can hear the chatter." Zahradil added that taking over the Foreign Ministry would strengthen ODS's position in the government. Meanwhile, during the recent cabinet reshuffle, two portfolios were handed over to STAN, while Lipavsky was allowed to keep his post.
  • According to E15, the government wants to change the constitution, making it easier to unseat the President and limit their powers in appointing members of the CNB's Bank Board by requiring the nominations to be confirmed by the Senate. The government also wants to strengthen the role of the Supreme Audit Office.
  • Czech and Polish cabinets hold a joint meeting in Prague today to discuss issues including nuclear energy, migration and transport infrastructure. A press briefing after the meeting will be held at 13:30BST/14:30CEST.
  • The budget committee of the Chamber of Deputies will discuss the draft state budget for 2025.
  • The Finance Ministry holds an auction for CZK4.0bn of 0.25% 2027 bonds and CZK3.0bn of 3.50% 2035 bonds.
