Democrat Reps Hold Presser Opposing Iran Deal

SECURITY

A group of 15 House Democrats have given a presser cautioning the Biden administration against a nuclear deal with Iran which would remove the Foreign Terrorist Organisation status from the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps.

  • Note: A number of the Reps were unable to attend the presser due to a hectic committee schedule today.
  • Rep. Elaine Luria (D-VA): 'Iran is dangerously close to obtaining a nuclear weapons capability, and they show no end in sight to the pursuit of a nuclear weapon.'
  • Luria says 'it's completely unacceptable to lift Foreign Terrorist Organization status for the IRGC as part of negotiations.'
  • Luria: 'We feel that we can't stay quiet about the unacceptable and deeply troubling turn that these talks have reportedly taken.'
  • Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ): 'If Iran has proven anything, it’s that they can’t be trusted.'
  • The prospect of a new Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action deal is looking increasingly imperiled with Congress people from both sides of the aisle demanding oversight on a final deal.
  • The Biden administration has consistently told reporters that the US could remove the FTO status from the IRGC while keeping sanctions in place on terrorist activities but it appears that the White House is losing control of the discourse.
