Democrat Research Suggests Stricter Border Policy Would Benefit Biden

US

Newresearch analysis on 2024sentiment commissioned by Blueprint, described by Politico as, “a new public opinion research firm backed by megadonor Reid Hoffman with the aim of delivering tough talk to Democrats in order to secure Biden’s re-election,” has found that registered voters are broadly supportive of more restrictive policy on the US-Mexico border.

  • According to Blueprint: “Voters support a deal to pair Ukraine and Israel aid with border security funding and more stringent asylum policies by 16 points. Support for the deal is strongest among Republicans (+30) followed by independents (+9) and Democrats (+8), and is also high among Black (+28), Hispanic (+18), and under-30 (+25) voters.”
  • And notable, “Only 25% of voters place Biden close to their views on immigration, contrasting markedly with Trump, who 44% of voters see as close to their views. Voter alignment on the border and asylum seekers similarly favor Trump. Notably, 41% of both Black and Hispanic voters consider Biden more liberal than they are on immigration, as do 66% of independents. Meanwhile, a third of Black and Hispanic voters and 51% of independents consider Trump close to their immigration views.”
