Democrats Open Up Slight Lead On Generic Congressional Ballot

US

Democrats have opened their widest lead on the generic Congressional ballot in over a year, following Vice President Kamala Harris' ascent to the top of the Democratic Party presidential ticket.

  • According to 538, Democrats' 1.1% lead on the generic ballot, which asks respondents if they would prefer an unnamed Democrat or Republican to represent them in Congress, is their largest lead since August 2023.
  • The Hill/DDHQ generic ballot tracker shows a similar trend toward Democrats since President Biden withdrew from the race, supporting a theory that Harris may boost down-ballot Democrats in the House.
  • Betting marketsshow Democrats with a 63% implied probability of winning the House, up from a dead heat, prior to Biden's withdrawal.
