Dep PM Wissanu Sees No Need For Snap Election

There is currently no reason to dissolve parliament and call a snap election, although it is technically possible, even during Prime Minister Prayuth's suspension, Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam said.

  • He clarified that acting Prime Minister Prawit, who is filling in for Prayuth, retains the full suite of prerogatives of a head of government, which includes dissolving parliament.
  • A source at the Election Commission told the Bangkok Post that the regulator is not ready to organise an election before two organic bills on the election of MPs and political parties become law.
  • Meanwhile, Prayuth made his first appearance since his suspension but refused to comment on matters surrounding his eight-year term limit.
