US TSYS SUMMARY: Despite the US government shutdown now in its fifth day, the
Dow Jones has gained over 1,000 points, helped in part by Chairman of the White
House Council of Economic Advisers Kevin Hassett indicating that Federal Reserve
Chairman Jerome Powell is "100 percent" safe in his role.
- US TSYs are bid with yields down 2-3bps across the curve. The 2s10s spread
trades at 18.3bps near the middle of the day's range.
- Inflation breakevens are trading flat with the 5-year holding around 3.1%
- The Euro$ futures strip has flattened with whites flat and blues 4.0-4.5 ticks
higher.
- The dollar has broadly weakened, with the DXY trading down to 96.7 from a high
of 96.9.
- Next up on the data calendar will be the release of initial jobless claims and
the Conference Board Consumer Confidence indicator for December.
