Duda Explains Court Bill Decision, Poland Stops Receiving Russian Pipeline-Borne Oil

  • President Andrzej Duda told "Sieci" weekly that he could not have signed off on the court bill, which the government claims would unlock Poland's access to EU recovery funds, due to his concerns over its compliance with the Polish constitution. He noted that it is unclear if the European Commission would not outline further conditions for disbursing the money, even if Poland adopted the required judicial reforms. Duda said that the ruling coalition should not made its political strategy dependent on the European Commission's decision ahead of this year's parliamentary election.
  • Poland said that it has stopped receiving oil from Russia via the Druzhba pipeline. The impact on the overall supply of oil should be limited, as Russian crude accounted for just about 10% of Polish imports, with Warsaw gradually reducing its dependence on Russian commodities since Moscow's invasion of Ukraine.
