FOREX: Early Asia-Pac hours have seen a speech from RBA Governor Lowe, who noted
that there are limits to what further MonPol easing can achieve, while pointing
to the global environment in which more rate cuts are exp. in major economies.
Lowe's remarks put a bid into AUD, lifting it to the top of the G10 pile.
- Safe haven FX have struggled, with JPY faring particularly badly, even as the
Nikkei 225 has operated in the red. A positive showing from U.S. equity futures
has applied some pressure to the space thus far.
- The loonie has inched higher vs. most G10 peers as oil prices advanced on the
back of weekend's declarations from U.S. leaders that they are set to announce
fresh sanctions on Iran on Monday.
- USD/EUR posted an uptick as FT reported that the EU will hold off the
disciplinary procedure against Italy this week.
- TRY has rallied as the opposition won the repeated mayoral election in
Istanbul by a considerable margin.
- Focus today turns to German Ifo survey, as well as m'fing activity gauges from
U.S. Dallas Fed & Chicago Fed.
