EdF, Terna to Double Corsica’s Import Capacity

French utility EdF and Italian grid operator Terna will begin grid refurbishments between Corsica, Sardinia and Tuscany, increasing Corsica’s import capacity to 100MW from 50MW, EdF said.

  • Preliminary works will start in the 2Q24 and take 5 years to complete.
  • Besides doubling Corsica’s import capacity, the project will also support an increase in renewables connected to the grid.
  • Italian PV capacity increased to 32GW at the end of 1Q24, with about 1.7GW of new PV connected to the grid at the end of the quarter, according to Italian solar association Italia Solare.
