Energy Companies Warn For Rising Dutch Grid Costs

POWER

Dutch total grid costs are set to continue to rise by €8.8bn to just under €12bn by 20245 according to a study by Aurora Energy Research, commissioned by Tata Steel, Shell, BP and Sabic and others, cited by Montel.

  • Dutch network costs have tripled over the past to years to €2.49bn this year, while network costs in Belgium, France and Germany are falling.
  • The increase in grid fees per individual power offtaker is expected to continue until around 2037, after which fees are expected to stabilise.
  • The findings are in line with Tennet’s forecast.
  • Tennet’s own grid fee forecast, conducted separately and published in July, is in line with Aurora’s findings, though it only extends to 2035.
  • “The difference in costs [between countries] is not so much in the network tariffs, but the unequal tariff arises because in the other countries the discounts for large consumers have been maintained”, TenneT said.
