Envoy Told To Leave Russia Within 2 Wks As Relations Deteriorate Further

LATVIA

Moscow has told Latvia to withdraw its ambassador from Russia within the next two weeks as already poor diplomatic relations between Russia and the Baltic states deteriorate further. Earlier this week Latvia told the Russian ambassador to return to Moscow by 27 Feb to show solidarity with neighbouring Estonia, which has had its diplomatic relations with Russia downgraded to the charge d'affairs level.

  • The expulsions mean that none of the three Baltic states - all NATO members - have full diplomatic relations with Russia. Lithuania expelled the Russian ambassador in April 2022 after revelations of the massacre of Ukrainian civilians in the town of Bucha.
