Equinor Increase Security and Call for Quicker Renewables Investment

ENERGY

Equinor CEO Anders Opedal today said the speed to make renewables investments needs to be quicker and that oil and gas investment is required for energy security.

  • “We need to move much more quickly on renewables and the decarbonization technology… The time for planning takes longer than actually executing it”
  • He also said that Equinor has raised security around its offshore North Sea platforms and pipelines. The Nord Stream gas pipeline explosions and an increase in drone activity around the company’s facilities have increase infrastructure security concerns.
  • “What we saw on Nord Stream was a stark reminder that someone has the intent and the ability to actually do this,” Opedal said. “We have also in the Norwegian continental shelf seen a lot of drone activity, and the combination of Nord Stream and the drone activity made us increase the security level.”
  • NATO allies have also started patrolling around installations and pipelines in the North Sea.
