Equities Roundup: Holding Early Gains, Oil Shares Outperforming

  • Stocks extending moderate early session highs at the moment, Energy sector shares outperforming as crude continues to bounce off last week's lows (WTI +1.65 at 77.54). Currently, DJIA is up 93.03 points (0.27%) at 35043.19, S&P E-Mini futures are up 18 points (0.4%) at 4545.25, Nasdaq up 97.4 points (0.7%) at 14223.44.
  • Leading gainers: Energy, Information Technology and Communication Services shares outperformed in early trade, oil and gas stocks buoyed the former: APA +1.84%, Marathon Petroleum +1.72%, ConocoPhillips +1.57%. Software and services shares led IT with Palo Alto Networks +3.0%, Salesforce Inc +1.23% and Gen Digital +1.2%. Meanwhile, bouncing off Friday's lows, iinteractive media and entertainment shares supported the Communication Services sector: Paramount Global +4.25%, Match Group +1.8%, Meta +1.2%.
  • Laggers: Utilities, Consumer Staples and Financials sectors underperformed in early trade, gas providers weighing on the former: NRG -0.85%, ATO -0.75%, Xcel Energy -0.66%. Personal care manufacturers weighed on Consumer Staples: Estee Lauder 2.0%, Church & Dwight -0.95%, Clorox -0.9%. Meanwhile bank shares weighed on Financials: Citizens -1.04%, Comerica -0.77%, Regions Financial -0.58%.
  • Corporate earnings still expected this week: Lowes, Best Buy, Burlington Stores and Kohl's early Tuesday, Autodesk, Nvidia and Deere after Tuesday's close.
