Eskom Continues To Escalate Load-Shedding

SOUTH AFRICA

Eskom says in a statement that it will continue to implement Stage 4 load-shedding from 14:00 today until 05:00 on Wednesday. Thereafter, it will alternate between Stages 3 and 4 (rather than the previous 2 and 4) until further notice.

  • The utility says that the "reduced generation capacity as well as the high sustained demand for electricity (about 33 000MW) has required the extensive use of Open Cycle Gas Turbines (OCGTs) and pump storage generation over the past 36 hours.
  • The earlier escalation to Stage 4 load-shedding on Monday was caused by icy weather conditions, which boosted demand for electricity, placing the grid under heightened pressure.
