Eskom Ramps Up Load-Shedding

SOUTH AFRICA
  • Eskom announced that "due to the delay in returning to service some generating units, Stage 2 loadshedding will be implemented today at 07:00 until 16:00. Thereafter, Stage 3 loadshedding will be implemented from 16:00 until midnight." The utility will publish a full update this afternoon. This ends the suspension of daytime load-shedding.
  • The SARB warned in its annual report that "the risk of secondary sanctions being imposed on South Africa amid the ongoing geopolitical polarisation resulting from the Russia-Ukraine war has increased" and "should these risks materialise, it would exacerbate the challenge of declining domestic financial market depth and liquidity."
  • The local economic docket is rather light today. Presidential spokesman Vincent Magwenya will provide an update on President Cyril Ramaphosa's programme for the next two weeks at 09:00BST/10:00SAST.
