Emerging Markets: ETF Inflow Streak Reaches $41.6 Billion, Largest Weekly Inflow To Brazil

  • Exchange-traded funds that buy emerging market stocks and bonds recorded inflows for a 27th straight week. The pace of increase had been decelerating before the week ending April 30 saw a rise in inflows of $342 million.
  • Last week, investors added another $326 million to U.S.-listed emerging market ETFs that invest across developing nations as well as those that target specific countries. This extends 2021 inflows to $24.7 billion, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.
    • Stock ETFs declined by $82.3 million.
    • Bond funds rose by $243.4 million.
    • Brazil had the biggest inflow, of $110.5 million, led by iShares MSCI Brazil.
    • South Korea had the biggest outflow, of $46.7 million, following withdrawals from iShares MSCI South Korea.
    • The MSCI Emerging Markets Index closed broadly in line from the previous week at 1,348.57 points.
