EU Lawmakers Repeat Call for Russian LNG Ban

EU lawmakers have once again called for the bloc to outlaw imports of Russian LNG and to close loopholes in existing sanctions, according to the AFP.

  • The call has been repeated by several Eastern member states as the EU is currently drafting proposals for an additional package of sanctions. The new sanctions should be discussed by member states next week.
  • However, there seems little urgency for an outright ban to Russian LNG across the bloc, as the EU remains one of the largest markets for Russian gas, while Europe has little appetite for restricting its energy supply further.
