EU LNG Imports Ease Lower as Spreads Encourage Flows to Asia

LNG net import flows to Europe ease back to 425mcm/d from as much as 487mcm/d over last weekend on 20 Jan. Imports to NW Europe are just under 300mcm/d compared to a peak of 336mcm/d during the cold spell in early December.

  • The Feb JKM-TTF spread is back up to +4.3$/mmbtu with JKM above TTF since 19 Dec. The gas spreads have moved more strongly in favour of flows to Asia over Europe. The US netback to Europe for March is estimated slightly lower at 15.47$/mmbtu and the netback to Asia is higher up to 18.42$/mmbtu. The netbacks for the summer months have swung back in favour of flows to Asia over Europe.

    • JKM Feb 23 up 1.9% at 23.26$/mmbtu
    • JKM-TTF Feb 23 up 1.4$/mmbtu at 4.36$/mmbtu
    • US Natgas FEB 23 down -1.9% at 3.38$/mmbtu
