The latest update on the European refinery maintenance schedule.
- In Germany, Bayernoil’s Vohburg refinery started maintenance in early October. The 60kbpd CDU Topping 2 halted on 10 October and has not restarted since. Other units restarted according to Bloomberg as of the latest update last week.
- Raffenerie Heide’s Klesch Heidi refinery restarted units on 6 December according to Bloomberg.
- The MiRo Karlsruhe refinery’s output remains below normal according to Bloomberg.
- TotalEnergies plans a partial halt at Germany’s Leuna refinery in autumn 2024, according to people familiar with the matter.
- Oilinvest’s Holborn refinery completed an extended, planned turnaround as of 4 December, the firm said.
- BP’s Gelsenkirchen refinery shut the 58kbpd hydrocracker on 5 December according to WoodMac.
- In France, Exxon Mobil’s Fos refinery is planning a major turnaround in early 2024, the Esso SAF CEO said, cited by Bloomberg. Maintenance is scheduled to start on 20 January to last until end March, affecting 131kbpd.
- In the UK, Total’s Fina Lindsey refinery is scheduled to undergo planned maintenance starting 16 January until 13 March according to Bloomberg.
- The Prax Lindsey refinery shut the 78kbpd VDU on 30 November according to WoodMac.
- Ineo’s Grangemouth refinery’s VDU and hydrocracker remained offline since early April.
- In Belgium, TotalEnergies is looking at postponing planned work on a gasoline producing unit next year at its Antwerp refinery according to Bloomberg sources. The unit is currently undergoing unplanned maintenance. The larger of the two FCCs - offline since August following a fault - is scheduled to have a new reactor installed in October 2024 but that is possibly now moved to 2025 the source said. Another source told Bloomberg that TotalEnergies Antwerp is planning two major rounds of work in 2025 and 2026 involving most operating units.
- In the Netherlands, a fire occurred in the gas turbine at BP’s Rotterdam refinery on 6 November, according to emergency services. The have been no further updates on how the fire affected output. The VDU at BP’s Rotterdam refinery remains halted since 11 April, the small hit on crude runs is estimated at 38kbpd according to Bloomberg.
- Shell’s Pernis shut down the 26kbpd VDU on 4 December, Bloomberg reported.
- In Spain, BP’s Castellon de la Plana refinery is scheduled to fully halt its output of 110kbpd on 15 October until 8 December. The halt is carried out every six years according to Bloomberg.
- Repsol’s Bilbao refinery restarted on 7 December according to WoodMcc. A cogeneration unit remained shut since 24 November according to Bloomberg.
- In Hungary, Mol’s Szazhalmbatta refinery has ongoing planned works at the 70kbpd CDU until 15 December according to Bloomberg. Works started on 6 November.
- In Italy, Lukoil’s ISAB refinery shut down in an unplanned outage on 24 November until 31 January, affecting 124kbpd, according to Bloomberg. Bloomberg separately reported the 65kbpd hydrotreater unit was shut on 4 December.
