    • migration and counter-terrorism was discussed, a solution to the Cyprus issue was called for on the basis of a bizonal federation but showed concern over human rights and rule of law – calling for dialogue on the issues
  • US-Turkey talks over the Kabul airport resume today.
    • Yesterday Turkey called for the US to cover the $130m/yr management costs, but also retain some US military defense facilities and continue with logistical support.
    • Turkey proposed a joint operation with Pakistani forces. Retention of any US presence is likely to be frowned upon by the Taliban
  • UNSG Guterres to meet separately today with Greek & Turkish Cypriot leaders to discuss the future of the divided island and restart stalled negotiations.
    • Turkish Cypriot leader Tatar remains resolute that no negotiations can occur unless they are on the basis of a two-state solution, while the international community backs a bizonal federation agreement
  • Delta variant has been detected in two members of Turkish Parliament from the MHP & CHP, despite being fully vaccinated. HealthMin says 134 cases of the Delta variant had been noted in 16 provinces
