Euro Parl't Committee Approves EU-UK Trade Deal, Moves To Full EP Vote

Darren McCaffrey at EuroNews tweets: "The European Parliament's Trade and Foreign Affairs committees have consented to EU-UK Brexit trade deal with an overwhelming majority of 108 votes in favour, with 1 against and 4 abstentions. Next stop is a vote among all MEPs to ratify the deal fully"

  • The committee's vote comes a day after senior MEPs refused to set a date for the full ratification of the EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement. The late-April plenary session was viewed as the most likely point at which a ratification vote would take place, but the European Parliament's leadership demurred on the issue.
  • Some MEPs have demanded greater reassurance that the UK will apply all provisions of the deal following a disagreement over the implementation of the Northern Ireland protocol.
