Eurozone Countries Seeing More "Misery" Than They Are Used To (2/3)

A look at "misery" indices since the start of 2020 shows a sharp pickup across the eurozone especially, with Italy leading the pack among major economies.

  • Relative to recent history, though, some countries may be facing relatively greater "misery" than they are used to. The chart below shows the number of standard deviations the current misery indices are above/below the 2010-2020 averages.
  • Canada, France and Germany stand out at the top of the pack, having enjoyed fairly steady inflation and unemployment outcomes in the previous decade compared with the current situation.
